| DISCLAIMER
Although every effort has been and will continue to be made to provide correct and the most up-up-to-date information on this page about e-book retailers and services, it is an extremely rapidly developing field, so please let us know if you find errors or out-of-date information. |

| The choice is YOURS!
We are able to e-publish-you with any of the e-book publishers listed below.
If you know of any e-book publishers not listed below that you would like to sell your e-book through please contact us with their details.
You’ll need an account
Selling your books through any of the e-book publishers listed below requires an account. Generally, e-book publishers make it easy for you to set-up your own account, although some are more difficult for non-US residents. We can help you with signing-up.
Most e-book publishers offer automated Digital Rights Management (DRM) which prevents unauthorized use, copying, sharing, or printing of your works. |

Amazon/Kindle reader
If you don’t have an existing Amazon account you can easily create one and sign-up as an e-book seller with Amazon. Then we can publish your e-book for you in the Kindle Stores on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and others.
Kindle Digital Publishing (KDP) accepts self-publish books in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian, and specifies pricing in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling, and Euros.
You return from Amazon will be 70% of the book price on books priced at US$9.99 or less.

Apple/iBookstore
Apple claims that 1 in 4 e-book sales are made through the FREE iBooks app, which is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, which also accept the FREE Kindle reader.
Because of Apple’s technical requirements for e-book sellers it is currently better to use an e-book aggregator. Aggregators are third parties approved by Apple to deliver and manage your content, and assist with marketing efforts.
The return from Apple is 70% of the book price, however, different aggregators charge different percentages, varying between 10% and 20% of the 70% return from Apple. See Lulu and Smashbooks below. |
 |
Kobo Books
With Kobo you can restrict your e-book sales to a particular territory or make them available to the world.
Signing-up is quick and easy. Just set up an account and Kobo send you their Publisher’s Agreement for review.
Kobo Books currently charge authors and publishers a commission rate of 50%. |
 | Lulu
The main benefit Lulu offers is that it’s one of the designated aggregators for Apple’s iBookstore.
Apple retains 30% of all revenue from sales on the iBookstore, of the remaining 70% the author receives 80% and Lulu receives 20%. Therefore, if your e-book sells for $9.99 on the iBookstore, you receive $5.59.
If you have Lulu set-up you e-book for you, they charge a production fee of $1.49 per book sold in addition to 20% of the return that you receive.
What this means is that the you receive 56% of the retail price for a book sold at Apple (versus 60% at Smashwords) and Lulu takes 14% (versus 10% at Smashwords). |
 | Smashwords
You can then sell your e-book on Smashwords.com or have the company aggregate it out to most of the major e-book sellers, including Barnes & Noble’s Nook, Apple’s iBookstore, Sony and Kobo Books, as well as Kindle.
A free Smashwords account is easy to set up and only takes seconds. Up-loading your book is also straight forward until you come to the part where you have to satisfy the requirements for Apple’s iBookstore. Why bother? Apple’s iBookstore reaches one of the largest e-book audiences. Enough said?
The free Smashwords Style Guide tells you how to format your book in the full range of formats, including the ePub standard, ready for uploading to the full range of e-book retailers, including Apple’s iBookstore.
If you find the instructions in the Style Guide too complicated or you simply don’t have enough time, come to us at e-publish-you.
Smashwords has a 20Mb size limit on the cover image but a 7Megabyte size limit on the content, so if your book is image rich book will probably not be accepted by the Smashwords uploader and converter. Also, the Smashwords converter cannot handle tables.
Smashwords does not charge you for creating your e-book and takes only a small cut of your royalties. When you upload, Smashwords give you a complete breakdown of what their cut and your cut will be of sales with the different retailers. |
